A grant of £10,000 is available to Businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or less who are currently in receipt of either small business rate relief or rural rate relief. These will be shown on your bill.
Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Businesses
If your property qualified for Retail Rate Relief on 11 March 2020, you will be entitled to a grant of:
£10,000 if your rateable value is £15,000 or less
£25,000 if your rateable value is more than £15,000 and less than £51,000
This grant will also apply to Public Houses, Bingo Halls, Estate Agents and Letting Agents that have closed as result of coronavirus.
To qualify, the premises must have been occupied and fit the qualifying criteria on 11 March.
To be eligible for a grant (1 grant per property) you must:
Fit the criteria stated above
Be the person responsible for business rates on 11 March 2020
NOT receive State Aid of more than 800,000 Euros in a 3 year period
Small Business Grant
The Government is providing £20 billion of business rates support and grant funding to help the most affected firms manage their cashflow through this period by:
giving all retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England a 100% business rates holiday for the next 12 months
providing small businesses eligible for Small Business Rate Relief a £10,000 grant
providing further £25,000 grants to retail, hospitality and leisure businesses operating from smaller premises, with a rateable value over £15,000 and below £51,000
Businesses that pay little or no business rates and are eligible for small business rate relief (SBBR) or rural rate relief will be contacted by their local authority and you will need to apply online with your bank details if you Do Not pay by direct debit. The funding will be provided in early April
Lichfield District Council are administering to eligible Lichfield District businesses the two business grants which were announced by the Chancellor.
To be eligible, businesses must be in one of the below categories:
– Receive Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief (receive £10,000)
– Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Sector (rateable value of up to £15,000 – receive £10,000)
– Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Sector (rateable value between £15,001 and £50,999 – receive £25,000)
The council will be making contact with eligible businesses over the coming days by email and post to request the information that will enable it to make the payments.

were in occupation of the premises and
were the ratepayer on 11 March and already receive
*small business rate relief or
*rural rate relief
*The reliefs will be shown on your latest bill.
This grant is not available for premises occupied for personal use, car parks and parking spaces and businesses that as of 11 March 2020 were in liquidation or dissolved.
How to access the grant
Lichfield council will send an information request to all eligible businesses in the next few days by email and post. In it we will ask local businesses to provide further information through an online form, which will go live soon.
Please be aware: Lichfield council will be sending the letters to business addresses, which may have been temporarily vacated. Tamworth Borough Council is contacting hundreds of businesses across Tamworth ready to start administering millions of pounds worth of grant funding from the Government.
The council’s economic development and revenues teams are currently sorting through the database of businesses which could be eligible for grants of either £10,000 or £25,000 from the Government’s coronavirus support packages.
Various details are required from businesses to enable grants to be processed and any businesses which think they might be eligible in line with the criteria below, are asked to visit our website at www.tamworth.gov.uk/small-business-grant-fund, fill in the online form at the bottom of the page and email it to covid-grants@tamworth.gov.uk
Grants will be paid directly to those listed as the liable ratepayers in the Tamworth Borough Council system as of March 11th 2020.
Small Business Grants
Under the Small Business Grant Fund (SBGF), all businesses in England in receipt of Small Business Rates Relief (SBRR) and Rural Rates Relief (RRR) will be eligible for a payment of £10,000 in line with the eligibility criteria. This includes those with a rateable value between £12,000 and £15,000 which receive tapered relief.
Businesses can find out if they are eligible for a Small Business Grant by checking their latest Business Rates bill to see if they qualified for Small Business Rates Relief. If they did, then the grant should apply.
Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant
Under the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant (RHLG), businesses in England in receipt of the Expanded Retail Discount (which covers retail, hospitality and leisure) with a rateable value of less than £51,000 will be eligible for the following cash grants per property:
£10,000 for eligible businesses with a property that has a rateable value of up to £15,000 and not receiving a Small Business Grant.
£25,000 for eligible businesses with a property that has a rateable value of between £15,001 and less than £51,000.
Small Business Grant Fund
Hereditaments included in this scheme are those which on the 11 March 2020 were eligible for relief under the business rate Small Business Rate Relief Scheme (including those with a Rateable Value between £12,000 and £15,000 which receive tapered relief). Each eligible business will receive a grant of £10,000. Eligible recipients will receive one grant per hereditament.
Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant
There will be two levels of grants
£25,000 for properties with a rateable value of more than £15,000 but less than £51,000;
• £10,000 for properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or less.
Grants will be provided in respect of each hereditament; therefore, businesses with multiple outlets would receive more than one grant and may receive grants from separate Local Authorities
These grants are only available to the person/business liable to pay Business Rates on the 11 March 2020. The Government will not accept deliberate manipulation and fraud, any business caught falsifying their records to gain additional grant money will face prosecution and any funding issued will be subject to claw back.
In response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Government has announced support for small businesses and businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors.
Two grant funding schemes are available:-
Small Business Grant Fund– available to all businesses in receipt of Small Business Rate Relief (SBRR) and Rural Rates Relief (RRR). Exclusions: hereditaments occupied for personal uses and car parking

Businesses must have been eligible for a discount under the Business Rates Expended Retail Discount Scheme on the 11th March 2020 (had the scheme been in force at that point) and only one grant per hereditament is available. Eligible businesses will qualify for a grant payment of:
£10,000(for businesses with a rateable value of up to £15,000)
£25,000(for businesses with a rateable value of over £15,000 and less than £51,000)
To process the grants, we require business bank details in order to pay electronically to eligible businesses. Depending on how/if a business currently pays business rates, we may not hold bank details and therefore need to collect these. We are currently issuing letters, telephoning / emailing eligible businesses where we do not currently hold bank details and requesting that the below grant claim form is completed. The information we are requesting also attempts to avoid fraudulent claims being made.
The government will provide Small Business Grant Scheme funding for local authorities to support small businesses that already pay little or no business rates because of small business rate relief (SBRR), rural rate relief (RRR) and tapered relief. This will provide a one-off grant of £10,000 to eligible businesses to help meet their ongoing business costs.

Businesses in these sectors with a property that has a rateable value of between £15,000 and less than £51,000 will receive a grant of £25,000.

On Thursday 26th March 2020, the Chancellor announced a support package for the self-employed whereby self-employed people with trading profits of up to £50,000 will be able to access a taxable grant based on 80% of their average monthly profits over the last 3 years, up to £2,500 per month. The scheme will be implemented no later than the beginning of June and HMRC will be contacting eligible people directly in due course. For more information please see the government guidance.
The Council has published a list of business types that are required to close or remain closed until otherwise directed. For businesses that wish to amend their service so that they can continue to trade, for example a restaurant may wish to offer takeaway or food delivery, they will need to email planning to let us know their intentions and ensure that they comply with their premises licence conditions.
In order to assist businesses during the Coronavirus outbreak, the government has announced two grant funds.
The Small Business Rate Grant Fund is applicable to any business which was in receipt of Small Business Rates relief on 11 March, 2020. This will pay £10,000.
The Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund is payable to qualifying businesses with rateable values under £51,000. Business with a rateable value under £15,000 will receive £10,000. For businesses with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000, a grant of £25,000 is available.
Businesses will only be eligible for one grant payment.
Accessing Grants
We will shortly be writing out to all businesses that we believe are eligible for a business support grant. If you receive a letter from us, you will need to complete a Coronavirus Business Support Grant application (link below). This will ensure that we have all of the information needed to release funds promptly.
Business rate relief
A business rates holiday for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England for the 2020 to 2021 tax year has been introduced. It has also been extended to non-local authority providers of childcare (nurseries). Businesses that received the retail discount in the 2019 to 2020 tax year have now been rebilled and will now receive 100% off their business rates. The retail discount scheme has been extended to include more business who will also receive a new bill.
Eligibility
You are eligible for the business rates holiday if:
– Your business is based in England.
– Your business is in the retail, hospitality and/or leisure sector.
– Your business is a non-local authority childcare provider (nursery).
Properties that will benefit from the relief will be occupied hereditaments that are wholly or mainly being used:
– As shops, restaurants, cafes, drinking establishments, cinemas and live music venues.
– For assembly and leisure.
– As hotels, guest and boarding premises and self-catering accommodation.
– As a non-local authority childcare nursery.
How to access the scheme
All eligible businesses have now been rebilled so if you have not received an amended bill, please contact our Revenues team to apply for the discount.
