Healthy takeaway business thanks Growth Hub for free advice

January 29, 2018

A takeaway specialising in healthy food has taken on 10 new staff and expanded its kitchen since opening nine months ago.

The Green Griddle Clean Living Kitchen, based at Berkeley Court in Newcastle, has seen a roaring trade and bosses are considering opening another franchise in Stafford.

Owner Scott Morgan, 37, said the business’ success was overwhelming at first and has thanked the Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Growth Hub for offering him free advice.

The Growth Hub was established by the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to play a major role in boosting business.

Scott, from Penkhull, said: “We opened last April and it’s been a real learning curve. The Growth Hub was able to help us in terms of pushing for sales, offering advice and giving me contacts for recruitment. I knew what I was doing when I started the business, but as it grew and became busier, it was reassuring to hear I was on the right track from someone else.

“It’s been a challenge, setting up a business from scratch, and recruitment has been the most difficult part of the experience. We started out with four staff and now we have 14 and are looking for more.

“We wanted to be the first of our kind in Staffordshire and once we have got the foundations secure, we will be considering franchising and looking at opening another in Stafford. I’ll be calling the Growth Hub again for more advice.”

Green Griddle healthy takeaway StaffordshireBecky Parker, Growth Hub business advisor, said: “Scott needed to make some adjustments to meet demand and create jobs after setting up a new business. People were looking to invest, and his new venture had really taken off.

“We gave him a free business diagnostic, where a qualified business advisor met with him at his business premises. Once consulted in more detail, we were able to give him some valuable contacts and advice.”

The takeaway now has a large customer base – including the NHS, Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council and Staffordshire Police – and has recently teamed up with One Delivery and Deliveroo to help meet demand.
